1. Don't be afraid to make an offer! It will never hurt to make an offer on a piece of art that you are interested in. If it is something you like what is the worst that can happen? If you are nervous about getting a "No" answer, don't be. Many negotiations start off with a "No" but often lead to a counter. So go ahead, get out there and make an offer! 2. Don't lowball just to lowball! One of the most common mistakes made when negotiations begin is trying to lowball the other party. If you do this you risk turing off the seller, even to a point where they refuse to make a counter offer. Make an offer based fairly on what you are willing to pay, and how much you would like to have that item. 3. It is ALWAYS a good idea to use PAYPAL! Paypal, or compaines like it, take care of securing the transaction for you. This way you never give the other party your credit card or bank account information. All you do is pay them in paypal and you are done. You can see that they recieved the money, and that it is secured. Paypal is also useful for dispute resolution (see site for details) 4. Don't be afraid to ask questions! If you are interested in the art, ask all of the questions you can think of that are not answered on the Art page. The artist should be more than willing to give you answers, and if they are not move on. It is not worth the trouble. If the artist does not wish to be forthcoming with you there is obviously a reason and it is best to move on if you don't feel comfortable. |
